I read about the fake interpreter incident a few days after the Nelson Mandela funeral. I saw a link to an article about it and read through some of it. My first thought was how did he manage to get away with that, and how is it that nobody noticed and kicked him out. I read that the same man had pretended to be an interpreter at the South African President's funeral not long before. This made me extremely upset because not only was it extremely disrespectful to the deceased, but it completely excluded an entire culture from being able to partake in the words and memories being shared at the funeral. I don't understand what made him want to do such a horribly rude thing, and for him to get away with it is just as stupefying. His actions made a LOT of people angry and it angers me that he has not been punished for it. This could definitely make some people wary of picking an interpreter for events such as this one.
